Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say it’s simple and monochromatic. I usually just wear grays and blacks, and if it’s too boring I wear a statement piece, like a necklace.
Q: Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
A: Mainly from Instagram or Tumblr. There’s this one person [on Instagram], Alyssa Lenore, and she’s like the queen, and her outfits are always so perfect.
Q: Which stores do you like to shop at most? Why?
A: Zara, Topshop, and Forever21. [Zara’s] quality is super good; it’s pretty pricey, but [it’s] really worth it. For Forever21, it’s on the cheaper side, but they have a whole variety of different styles.
Q: What kind of clothes or accessories do you like to buy from those places? Why?
A: I usually just go for basics, so anything from tees to cardigans or jackets because layering is so much easier than [wearing] really complicated pieces.
Q: What clothes or accessories do you usually look for when you go shopping?
A: Anything gray or black, but accessory-wise I prefer silver [pieces of jewelry] because I feel like they just look really clean with the whole gray-and-black scheme.
Q: What do you find yourself buying the most often?
A: Definitely T-shirt dresses and basic tees. [I have] four to six different gray T-shirts, but they’re all different shades, so I’m like Fifty Shades of Grey but not really… I’m like Six Shades of Grey. And then, I always look at a lot of shoes because I feel like they’re so versatile— you can totally change up your style with one pair of shoes.
Q: Do you have a favorite pair of shoes?
A: Not really because I try to go for comfort, but at the same time I want to be stylish. [Sometimes] the pair of shoes I get doesn’t offer both of them, so I can’t really decide.
Q: What type of clothes express you the best? Why?
A: I feel like I’ve said this so many times, but the whole monochromatic theme. I wear black when I’m happy, and I wear black when I’m sad, and it’s just so versatile and easy to style, and it matches with everything. You can’t go wrong with it, but I usually go for gray more because it looks less scary and intimidating than black.
Q: What are your favorite fashion trends?
A: I love that turtlenecks are coming back, obviously [gestures to turtleneck sweater], because—when you’re six years old, you’re like “Oh my god, they’re so gross,” but, like, they’re so cute!
Q: What would you say is the most important piece for an outfit? Why?
A: I would say a statement piece because—it could be anything from a necklace to a watch to cute shoes or distressed jeans or something, but [a statement piece] can totally amp up your outfit to make it from casual to all dressed up.
Q: Do you like to plan out your outfits ahead of time or right before you go to school?
A: I’m not a morning person. So, I wake up when school starts. I usually just try to establish an outfit the night before and go from there.
Q: Do you have a favorite piece of clothing? Why do you like it?
A: I have this Zara top…from Zara…and it’s gray and it’s a low cut V-neck, and it’s, like, the most comfortable thing in the world. It literally feels like you’re wearing a cloud. And I feel like with that you could wear a flannel, or a leather jacket, or a skirt, or shorts, or jeans, and it can totally change [depending on what you’re wearing].
Q: What style tips would you give to someone who wants to be a “fashionista”?
A: I’d say [you should] try to impress yourself, not other people because I feel like it’s more important to be more comfortable than to have other people be like “Oh, I love your outfit.” Like I said, it doesn’t really matter what other people think as long as you feel like you look amazing, [because] then you will [look] amazing.
